I would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and concerns after my post last week. This weather has made staying home and doing nothing pretty easy!
My daughter the nurse Phd came up to make sure I was receiving top notch care. One of the RNs that I was assigned was a former nursing student of hers. Basically all the nurses on the floor were terrified of my daughter (who is 5' tall) but the doctors loved her questions and spent lots of time talking over me.
Both daughters were bored by day two and went to the grocery store. They went to my house and threw out what was in my refrigerator and made me about 30 meals. These included raw green pepper, raw vegetables, fake eggs with raw green pepper, overnight oatmeal (I detest oatmeal), brown rice etc. All in cute little meal containers. Snacks were apples and nuts. This was incredibly nice of them.
So I switched to some of the food, like eating the yogurt and berries on top and leaving the oatmeal on the bottom, and egg whites from my farm eggs for lunch. And lean meat and cooked veggie with no salt for supper. She keeps sending me goofy recipes though, the last one is soaking chicken in almond milk, then . . . well I didn't read the rest.
Further embarrassing my children were my actions in the hospital. Our 50th wedding anniversary is coming up and I was on several fan sites, etc, that had codes for early bird purchases. I had set alarms in my phone. The original plan was to purchase them on my laptop so I could see what was doing. I was receiving alarms every time they were going to do a medical procedure and having to let them time out. The first day was a total flop. I actually was able to purchase the tickets and all the extras, like the big bucks parking so I don't have to walk far and tickets to a special bar/deck area which has a private restroom for those patrons (you see where my mind is) right before I went down for the heart cath. Success! And as silly as this seems, this concert at the end of July is goal one.
In more disappointing news I had signed up for a Bridge Brigade which is a group of protesters who show up on an overhead bridge over the highway, each holding a letter to spell out a message. I received my first alert and had to contact the coordinator and explain I am out due to health reasons. And today the local party called me and I told them the situation before we got started on the ask.
I notified the charity that I won't be around for several weeks at the very least, until I get my act together. They actually wrote a prayer for me.
"Loving Lord, We ask Your healing grace for (Miss Merry). Bless her for her faithful service with the Saint Vincent de Paul ministry. Restore her strength, grant her peace and hold her in Your loving care." (and this made me cry.)
My arms are now black, blue, green and orange from all the needles and whatevers at the hospital. My husband is afraid I am turning into the president.

Nothing is too much information--I know you haven't been well Miss Merry, but I STILL didn't realize the extent of it. I think it's awesome that you can put a humorous spin on things, but this still broke my heart reading it. I'm glad you have a good support system, please keep your readers (like me) updated on your progress when possible. I think the world of you :^)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update on your health and situation. I have gone through this with my husband so I know how overwhelming this all is. Hint. Change your diet slowly. I have IBS and other stomach issues so I followed a doctor's chart in eating certain foods and then slowly adding back in items to see if they were the culprit.
ReplyDeleteIt actually worked very well for me.
But I'm sure your situation is way different so I'll just leave it at that. You have your very smart daughter to help you out!
I am happy that you are concentrating on the good things like your wedding anniversary! Awesome! Positive actions like that and of course getting new PJ's are healthy choices!
I'll keep you in my thoughts.
PS...I think Alex's murder was the stick that broke the camel's back.
So do I.
DeleteMe too, crying so many times this last week. Well, I would if I didn't have dry eyes. Thanks for the update of your experiences, geese, you sure have survived a lot! I remember all the bruising from my trips to the hospital. No fun. And to have all that food change on top of everything else! Glad someone checks on you daily! Love the new pj's. I hope you get to do some of the rehab that cardio provides...there's a great gym here in Asheville. It really helped me be able to move better.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you. Praying for you and your healing.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry. You have a very long way to go before you turn into the president and if temporary bruises are a part of it -- well, they're about the best, all things considered. I'm so pleased you have had excellent support from your daughters and the nursing staff during this. I feel your embarrassment about the nightgown and a go-bag isn't a bad idea for any of us. Who can actually think when all that is happening. Those are pretty cute, too -- and smart thinking about the arms and stuff. As for the food -- great idea to load the freezer. The oatmeal? Maybe not! But you got a good workaround.
ReplyDeleteYou do so much -- for the protests, for the charity. I'm sure they are more than grateful to give you some time off so that you will have the strength and ability to be able to return. Because we all know you will -- and as soon as possible! Keep at it. You've got this!
That was such a sweet and helpful thing your daughters did. I know you are appreciating those meals!
ReplyDeleteCute PJ's! I should order some like that, cause the ones I have now aren't the best. :)
Miss Merry, so glad you are able to continue to post... throughout your ordeal. I'll bet it's hard to keep you down. Glad your daughter or daughters are there to help. I also have GERD, and IBS... so yes, it limits some food intakes (however, I love oatmeal... do use gluten free... went gluten free and lactose free a few years ago and it has helped). But it sounds like you have a wonderful support system, so rest up, and get well. That flu really did a number on you.
ReplyDeleteCute pajama's. I laughed at the meals your daughters made with love and concern for you because I would be in the same position because of IBS. People just don't understand that you can't eat certain things, especially all at once without um, unfortunate results. :-)
ReplyDeleteTake care and do things slowly.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
Nice PJ's! Hope you are taking it easy and recovering! How nice that your girls helped with making easy food. The elderly do not do well with complete dietary changes so maybe a little at a time !
ReplyDeleteMerry, as soon as I saw your hand, I k ew what smart aleck comment I was going to say...except that darn Mr. Merry beat me to it.
ReplyDeleteTake care of yourself.
Dear Miss Merry, thank you so much for sharing your update. Prayers for your health and healing 🙏 ❤️
ReplyDeleteOMG! OMG! I'm away from checking on blogger friends for a while and so much is happening. Good gosh! I'm so sorry for all you went through and are going through. We are devastated and heartbroken about Alex Pretti. I was just at the military hospital and know so many of the wonderful dedicated nurses there. What is happening to this country?
ReplyDeleteGlad you're getting through your tests and adventures. Yep, I'd be picking out those green peppers from your prepared foods. Hmmmm, maybe the exhuberant PhD didn't check with the admit folder about your usual previous aliments. She meant well. I worked at a VA on the heart floor with it's hospice unit. There's really a lot of respect for the patients there. Totally bizarre. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteLove those pjs! You've got a village helping you, Miss Merry. As Val said, change slowly. It's been hard to think, I'm angry, sad, distressed and did I say angry?
ReplyDeleteI’m so sorry you are having to deal with this…so scary. How wonderful to have such lovely support, it’s your turn to take it easy and let others do for you. Take extra good care. Best, Virginia
ReplyDeleteYour poor hand! You're too nice/decent to worry about turning into the president.
ReplyDeleteThat's lovely that your church charity wrote a prayer for you.
I'd stop reading a recipe, too, if it started with soaking chicken in almond milk! Have you tried steel cut oatmeal? I hate the slimy texture of regular oatmeal, but I really like the steel cut oatmeal. It's not slimy!
So glad to hear from you this frosty morning, and double-glad your spirits are getting back to their usual spritely self. I don't think you know how many admirers and readers you have, tender hearts and staunch protectors if needed, and how many good wishes and prayers circulate on your behalf.
ReplyDeleteAnd we ALL need someone that everyone's afraid of---I had me one of those, and have a houseful of well-turned-out trainees, as well. That one could wreak havoc on anything that plagued us, solve the matter, and happily slide his knees under a little pink-tulle tea table for Doll Tea in the same hour.
You stay well and warm, and know how much you're loved.
Miss Merry, I really like your profile picture, you look radiant ✨️ 💛
