My mother, my grandmother and spoiled rotten me with the high cut bangs. I still have this dress, another my grandmother made for me. It is a pink and black plaid with a little black velvet bow.
My mother is wearing a smock apron. I know because she wore one every day. My grandmother will have been wearing a conventional apron that ties at the waist. I kept a box of aprons, stained and threadbare for many years until I could part with them.
This is just precious! I think it's kind of sad that aprons have gone out of style. They were a wise thing and I could have saved some clothes by wearing them!

I love this photo! I am amazed you still have this dress. A friend kept her son’s christening gown and then gave it to her grandson for his christening. (Baptismal)

ReplyDeleteI still have an apron, but I use it when painting and crafting to keep me from wiping my hands on my clothes.

ReplyDeleteWhen my Mother passed away, Daddy went to Texas with my Sis, to live and to help build their house. A year later, we got a call---Daddy was to be "back home" for the Thanksgiving weekend, to attend an all-weekend wedding down in Jackson. And if we wanted anything out of the house, BE THERE because he'd sold the house and wouldn't be returning.
Two of my sons were there, Sis and hers drove over from TX, and and after all the Hello hugs, I headed straight for the kitchen, opened the Apron Drawer and upended it and the Cookbook/ recipe Drawer into a big box. Still have them, including quite a few Taste of Home and the tiny red smock apron that had covered her DAWN bottle. Most aprons of that era were made of as much remembered fabric as quilts.
I love those smock aprons and have my gran's, tears and all!
