Welcome to Winter

Thanks for the kind words on my last post.

I am feeling a little more productive.  I found some Christmas storage containers on Amazon with 60% off coupons and a discount on top of that. I also discovered I could use the coupon multiple times if I chose a different color.  I received the first box today, a cube with dividers for 3 rows of ornaments and I am pretty excited about the whole project. So perhaps Christmas will disappear by the end of the month.

This will start a much larger project since the ornaments used to live under the bed in the guest room. The cubes will be moving to the closet in the room where the door remains closed. Items will be need to be removed from that closet (which is kind of scary because I am not sure what all is in that closet) and hopefully fewer of those items will move under the bed.

This will all be dependent on weather. We took my youngest son's three children on Sunday because we had a winter storm warning for Monday. Mom teaches at a different school that never, ever closes, but they attend a rural school with country roads, hills and bridges that freeze over.  So dad brought them at dinner time while he was on his way to work. The next morning my two grandsons who board the school bus arrived at my house and had a snow day, too! So I got to organize activities for five very active little boys all day Monday.

By evening we had received a few more inches, along with some drizzle and icy rain and the roads out of our county were under a "only travel if necessary" warning. We decided not to risk the trip to a neighboring county where the three live and kept them a second night.

When we got up this morning, our roads were still snow and ice covered so the two local bus riders had another day off. And the three overnight guests did have school in their county who was spared the snow and ice, but we couldn't drive all that way to their school. So we had all five again all day today.

Right now we are home alone, resting up for tomorrow when we will only have a two year old (who has been home with his mom, a teacher in a town next door that has been closed, too). Tomorrow night his three year old cousin will arrive and stay through Friday as usual and then, speaking of Friday - it is a teacher in-service day so I will have my bus riders all day on Friday, too!

Got all that? I'm not sure I do. All I know is that it will be Saturday before I can begin to think about dragging stuff out of that closet and getting this project started. Unless there is a storm and I have a houseful of children snowed in with me.

Stay safe and warm everyone!

  1. It sure sounds like you got an amazing deal on those storage containers. I'm trying my hardest to get things organized here too. Unfortunately I keep getting distracted by other things too.
I sure hope your children appreciate you and all that you do, (I'm sure they do). It has to take a load off of their minds, knowing the children are all safe with Grandma and Grandpa. It's like a fulltime job for you isn't it? But so full of love too. What a wonderful thing that you do.
    Blessings and love,
    Betsy

  4. That is a lot of kids to keep busy though at one time I watched my own two and the neighbor's 4 and we used to joke that we had 6 acres between us with 1 child per acre.
    They are grown up now!

I spent too many years driving on bad roads and iced bridges to go out now! I'm glad you all stayed home and safe.
That job of going through a closet...it would be as intimating as going through one of our sheds where hubby stacked all the 'good stuff' ~ mystery metal and things!

    Stay warm!

  5. WOW!! I also hope that your children appreciate all you do for them and reward you for such in the way of gifts, dinners, etc since you are saving them a ton of money on child care....That is why my son treats us to dinner on Fridays because i cook dinner for him to come to eat, every other day...I hope as you both get older, they realize how taxing caring for all those children at once can be on you both...I was lucky being able to work night shift and Joe work day shift so we did not need anyone else to watch our sons...I just didn't sleep much in those days...I hope you get some time to yourselves and can work on some of the projects that you want to get done....I would be so exhausted....Thanks so much for stopping by!!
    Stay safe, healthy and happy!!
    Hugs,
    Debbie

  6. They must keep you young because I know it would probably kill me! I love children but I am so used to being alone and doing my own thing that I am sure I would be a failure at it . I'm sorry I missed your last post and so sorry you were feeling overwhelmed by everything. I get that way usually at night when I'm trying to go to sleep and I think about all the things I didn't get done and will it ever get done? Know you are not alone and as for the world...I do keep on top of things but then I pray about it so it;s out of my hands and mind.I will pray that peace comes to you and you can enjoy the present. BTW, many of my Christmas decorations are still up too! LOL!

  8. LOL - I got sick earlier in late Dec with Labyrinitis. and then after just 1 week of being back to work (1st week of Jan) I got sick again Jan 9th) and turned into pnuemonia - I tested negative for covid & both types of flu but I am pretty sure I got it. Needless to say, I never got any of my Xmas put up either as I was sick starting before Xmas, sick thru Xmas, sick thru new Years and then well for 1 week and sick for almost 3 again. So yep... all my Xmas all stacked up in my dining room and on hutch, etc - all in one room but all over the place. I have almost no wall decor up because I took all the Xmas down but no energy to put back the 'old' decor either. Maybe before Easter, lol.

  9. Good morning!! We had rain yesterday and now we are coated over with ice with freezing rain and sleet falling now....I think the envelopes can be made with card board and then cover with a fabric and embellish....I have also seen them on Pinterest made from felt... Thanks so much for stopping by again...I enjoy your visit and look forward to your stories!! Stay safe, healthy and happy!!

  10. Me again!! I chuckled when you said that all the grandchildren were snowed in at their parent's homes...I have to wonder how that went over for the parents...LOL!! Glad that you found some tubs for organizing and packing away decorations and organizing...Hopefully, the next few days of temps near 40 will help melt all the ice we have... Thanks so much for stopping by again!!
    Stay safe, healthy and happy!!
    hugs,

Thank you so much for stopping by to visit! I love your comments and suggestions and read them all. Due to spam, I will now have to approve all comments. Sometimes it takes me a hot minute to authorize comments due to grandchildren commitments. I apologize but I can't let those scammers get the upper hand!
