The Right Date

One Saturday I got up and put on my good jeans. Fixed my hair and it looked really great. Went to the oldest church in my town for a quilt show. The parish was established in 1818 and services were held in a log cabin. When the
oldest part of the current church was built in 1909, the log cabin was moved to the rear of the property and used as a parish center until 1976 when our community had a series of church arsons and it was burned to the ground.

The only problem?  I had the wrong weekend.

A week later, I put on decent clothes, did something with my hair that was not nearly as successful and went to the quilt show.  I think I am just going to let the photos speak for themselves.

I was surprised by how vibrant the reds were. My favorites are always the doll quilts or children's quilts. A lot of the crazy quilts had some really special touches.

I hope you enjoy looking at the photos.  I had a nice, quiet Saturday admiring all the quilts. I ran into several friends who are still quilters. And I did finally arrive on the correct day.

  1. Good for you for going back again! The quilts are fabulous. I've made 2 queen size and 1 kings size quilt along with a few wall hangings and I think that's it for me. Although I am planning to do some english paper piecing. I just do know what it will end up being. Maybe just another wall hanging. :-)
    Thanks for the beautiful photos.
    Blessings,

  2. These are wonderful...and so historical! What amazes me though, is that some of the patterns look so modern. You can scarcely believe that they are over a hundred years old!

  3. Wow. I loved these. My Grandmother made me a small quilt before I went to college. I have patched and patched it [little crazy quilt] over the years. She used one of her older floral table clothes as the backing. Such a precious thing! She made little ones for each of my boys too when they were born. Out of their great grandfather's old wool clothes. My boys are in their 40's and have preserved and used theirs with much love.
Quilting is awesome. I really want to get back to doing that one day! So creative and full of colors!

  4. I never thought I'd be so interested in quilts, but these were awesome--my gosh, the ages on some of these! Loved "The People's Party" from 1864, just amazing--thank you Miss Merry (and sorry about that cabin burning down years back as well).

  6. I love quilts and quilt shows. What an interesting way to display a lot of quilts without a lot of fuss trying to hang them all or find enough the wall spaces. Great idea!
