I may be behind on decorating my house for Christmas, but I did get the dollhouse decorated on time! My granddaughter checks to make sure the elves are on the job after Thanksgiving- and they were!
First, a word on the dollhouse. It was built in the late 1970's by my father in-law as a gift for my sister in-law. She allowed her young daughter to play with it, hence the missing bannisters. She had invited my son over, when he first bought his house, to go through her garage furniture before donating it and offered him the house if any of his friends had children. He remembered his grampa had made it and brought it here. This did not make her happy.
Regardless. I will say that taking photos made me notice the general shabbiness and I really need to make time for another remodeling project (after he finishes the bathroom).
Here are some reindeer reading maps and watching the weather channel.
These elves are all Hallmark ornaments from the 90's. I got them on eBay when things were inexpensive on eBay.
There are two kitchen areas. Because I like kitchen accessories.
And the last room.
And that's it for the dollhouse. Santa needs an upgrade!
The dollhouse lives in my bedroom, on top of my double dresser. I ordered it with no mirror when I had the Amish build it with this in mind. It is almost four feet wide.
And . . . . I put up the tree! I stayed up very late on Sunday and just made up my mind to do it. And . . . . . because I am even crazier than you can imagine, I put up a second tree.
You may remember my husband found 7 trees in storage. I told him to put the others back. There can be too much of a good thing.
That dollhouse is just too fun. My favorite are the reindeer reading maps and watchiing the weather channel while eating cookies. Hilarious!
ReplyDeleteToo bad your sister-in-law didn't want you to have the dollhouse for some reason. She was obviously ready to let it go. Why not keep it in the family.
I decided NOT to put the tree up this year. I'm still not doing well, no voice and coughing and no energy. I just can't face all of those ornaments and knowing it all has to come down in a few weeks. So I got out the little tree we used in the camper the year we lived in it before moving. My best friend decorated it for us, and her husband made a tree stand base for it with his 3D printer. It's about 12-18 inches high with lights and ornaments that just stay on it. All I have to do is lay it in it's own box she decorated with Christmas paper. It's perfect!
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
Hooray for you! I know that tree thing has been hanging over you and it has to feel good to have it done.
ReplyDeleteI love the doll house. I can't believe your SIL was just going to get rid of it. Your Christmas decorating in it is the cutest.
I love the Christmas dollhouse! It's so cute. I haven't done any Christmas decorating, so I'm enjoying seeing everyone else's. Thank you for sharing your Christmas dollhouse with us.
ReplyDeleteAh! You are not that different from me who plays with Legos! I do the same thing as you. Set things up, decorate the set up and enjoy the experience. Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteMy stepdaughter puts up a tree in every room of her house. I cannot imagine.
You are not crazy, you are just fun!
That's quite the dollhouse! When you do something, you do it big. Two trees. It's probably a good thing the rest of the trees were put back into storage!
ReplyDeleteI love, LOVE, LOVE the dollhouse and the tradition you're building around it for your granddaughter's delight. Please don't remodel it too much, maybe just touch up the paint on the woodwork. Part of its charm is it captures the a past era with its old wallpaper. I had to sell my childhood dollhouse 3 years ago and I would have loved it to stay in the family. Too bad your sister-in-law doesn't see it that way.
ReplyDeleteGood for you ...using the dollhouse, glad it was saved! Two trees should be okay! Good to hear you got them up!
ReplyDeleteLove your dollhouse. The reindeer reading the paper is so cute and fun! Santa lying in bed is just the cutest. I like how the rooms are wallpapered and I love the designs. I always wanted a dollhouse, never got one, I think I must now. Loved your blog post.
