Things are not going well on the front porch of the house with the picket fence. I spent $25 each on hanging baskets for my front porch and this is the condition they are in. I have hung these baskets on this porch since it was built in 2004 and my gardener/husband has provided the same care every year. With the use of a magnifying glass and a microscope he discovered they are full of tiny little bugs.
My daughter is forcing me to get up and dressed and leave the house early every day. Today it was back to the Amish nursery where everything was half price. There was the sweetest owner/mother and an adorable truck driver who was no help at all.
I am going to flood your brain with flowers.
I was overwhelmed. So pretty.
I was starting to forget what I was looking for.
My daughter bought this planter for half price - $15.
I decided to go patriotic.
I paid full price for this wooden garden. (of course)
The truck bed.
Might as well stop at the Mennonite Grocery Store.
I think this is cereal. My son and his sons have been coming to dinner on Tuesdays. Yesterday I baked a 10 lb ham and it turns out that they were only coming during the school year. I bought cheese for ham and cheese sandwiches for the next week.
When I would bring my 4H club here, I gave them a scavenger hunt sheet. One activity was to count how many sprinkle varieties. There are hundreds. I used to buy the paper plates of homemade hoho cakes for my kids. They were $2-$3 for a half dozen. Now they are $8.25.
Came home and redecorated the front porch in the new theme. My gardener is treating the new plants in the morning. Please ignore the dead iris blooms.
By afternoon it was in the 90's. But it was the first summer free concert at our new city amphitheater. I couldn't believe I talked Mr Merry into going. But he did.
This is a dad, three daughters (the bass player is 15, lead singer just graduated) and a son, the drummer, who is the youngest. The band name is Townline 26 which is the road where they live.
And tomorrow is my church charity office day. I need the rest!
Looks like you did well. Prices have definitely soared. The dead irises remind me of the shriveled and dead purple lilacs on a bush close to where I live. So sad, they were so beautiful and purple last week. Thank you so much for sharing your life here.
ReplyDeleteThat is too bad about your original plants. Hope your new plants fair better:) That was a great greenhouse and Amish store tour!
ReplyDeleteI would definitely be there for a haf price sale. Music sounds perfect for an outdoor concert.
ReplyDeleteMiss Merry you are too much! I mean that in a good way, very much enjoyed this. Loved all your plants, you honestly make me wish I lived in a house vs apartment. And loved seeing the Mennonite grocery store!
ReplyDeleteWe have a Mennonite nursey that sells flowers and is connected to a store like the one you show. It has some great candies in it and other goodies too. Looks almost exactly like yours!
ReplyDeleteI didn't go shopping for live plants this year. I just put out a ton of seeds and and enjoying watching them grow.
Your porch looks beautiful! I like the little wooden garden too. I wish we had a Mennonite store near us, that produce looks so good.
ReplyDeleteGood job - you had a very productive day!
That family is very talented! Thank you for the clip, I enjoyed hearing it. I sure wish we had a Mennonite store like that at home. I used to visit one in Annapolis when Mandy lived there. Great food and good prices, plus a bit of everything else.
ReplyDeleteI sure hope your flowers do better than the last ones did. How disappointing for you but fun to get new ones at half price.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
You got some gorgeous flowers. You are so busy, so much energy.
ReplyDeleteI love the flowers you bought. I wish we had Amish businesses near by to shop at. I used to take day trips to Amish areas. Yes, Michigan has one or two but much smaller than those in other states.
ReplyDeleteMiss Merry, so happy to see a picture of your porch! You mentioned it when I told of my plans to extend ours, but I didn't remember seeing a pic of yours. Looks great! And as usual, you keep up a very active schedule. If I have more than 3 things to do in one week, I'm overwhelmed. You are a hoot! And I would never have gotten DH to go to a concert - especially if it was in the 90"s!
ReplyDeleteThe concert sounds really fun. Oh, your poor, buggy baskets. I'm sorry you had to rebuy but the new blooms are fabulous and what a great nursery (and price!). And glad they are being bug-protected, too. That Mennonite grocery looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your hanging baskets...I am thrilled with all the faux flowers that I bought and have used on my front porch and back patio...I did plant a few annuals which only takes me 2 watering cans to water them all...It used to take me 10!! I should also be saving on my water bill...
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Deb
