The Crud

All I have to say is that if this is what a respiratory flu is like with a vaccine, I would drop dead without one.

We have been enjoying horrible headaches, night sweats and chills, high temperatures, sore throats, runny noses, nice deep chest coughs, and more. I will spare you the rest of the details. I started the mess on Sunday night and Mr Merry joined me on Tuesday night.

We are trying to make an effort to shower and change pajamas once a day if possible.

I am living on a diet of cough drops and hot tea and coffee.

Yes, I should have gone to the doctor on Monday when I was more asthmatic.  But I didn't so I can't shame him into going now.

We haven't left the house. I cancelled my charity stints. The grandkids are bringing breakfast and sitting in the dining room by the front door to eat and get on the bus.

Whine whine whine.

  1. So sorry, Miss Merry. I had the flu back in the 90's (without the vaccine) and all I can say is that I wanted to die (and was sick for over a month). So, I never miss a flu shot... even if they don't guarantee it will catch all the bugs. So, I think you are right that things would be worse without the vaccine... but who knows. Take care of yourself and hubby and hope you feel better soon.

  3. So sorry to hear you are suffering. It's worth all the whines you wish to share...and I am glad you're surviving with lots of hydration. You might try some of those electrolyte balancing drinks, like Pedialyte or Gatorade, since you're fighting a bug, so to speak. Fevers often respond to them. Or if you're more natural, I'm sure you've got echinacea tea or syrup. Be well my blog-friend!

  5. I hated reading this, but still glad you shared Miss Merry. I was wondering if things were alright or you were just caught up in the Holiday season, I was sure it was the latter, darn it. Please share as much as you're able and do all that stuff you have to do to get better asap!

  6. Consider going to the doc to get a test for covid, flu A and B. One of those tester kits for all 3 from a drug store or WalMart is about $22. I've had all vaxes too, including RSV, and had some cold crud too. Tests were negative. Due to red throat and inflamed lungs with asthma, my doc put me on Zpak antibiotic just to protect my itty bitty grandchild the next time I see them. Linda in Kansas

  7. Sounds like that whining is well deserved -- no judgment here. I hope you are improving every day.

  8. I'm so sorry, that really stinks! We don't have time for sickness right now, right?
I hope you feel better and soon!

  9. I have nothing to offer but prayers for surcease and quick recovery. I will humbly offer my Grandchildren's fervent believer in the panacea of what ganjin says for every ache, fall, bandaid, heartache and booboo, and the grown ones still call to hear me say it.

I'M SO SORRY THAT HAPPENED TO YOU. I hold it out as our own heart-remedy.

  10. Do sorry about the illness. Do you have plenty of elderberry to take? Great for viruses.

  11. Oh my goodness. It has been all through my son and his family for a couple of weeks. My poor daughter in law still sounded terrible. I came home and Tim and I got our covid and flu shots. Tim got his shingles shot. So I figured that I might as well have that too to make our boostershots on the same day. In hindsight 3 vaccines might have been one too many. I hope you feel better soon

  12. The flu is not something you can get over in a day or two, it really knocks you for 6. I'm glad we are able to access the flu jab and hopefully just get a mild attack or manage to avoid it altogether. This year's virus sounds a particularly nasty one. Take care and look after yourselves.

  14. Ouch and ick. That sounds awful. I have no good advice for you other than I hope you get rest, drink your fluids, and start to feel better.
