Memory Monday

Thank for the well wishes. Cataract surgery went fine. I was shocked at how painless it was.  Now three weeks of eye drops.

It seems like we are crazy busy around here (mostly doctor appointments) and we have three more this week. But I still had the envelope of 1970's photos on my desk so we are stuck with those.

I am starting with this one of me reading the newspaper since my last post had me on this floor reading the newspaper. I read the newspaper a lot in the 1970's. The table in front of the couch was my play table when I was little and is in my house right now and the wooden piano stool in front of the window is beside my chair and holding my coffee.

I remember this gray coat and gray and white shift dress that I wore once for Easter.  I am not sure who bought it because I look horrible and gray when I wear gray.  But don't my legs look long? This is an optical illusion.

This is me spreading a table cloth at a picnic. I hate picnics and had a phobia of bugs on food as a teenager.  There seem to be a lot of photos of me at picnics. I'm not sure if we were picnickers or they wanted to torture me. The man is my uncle from Illinois, my cousin Claire is in the white tee shirt, by the process of elimination I think the orange shirt is my cousin Simon and my Aunt Mary Ellen is on the opposite side of the table.

My uncle, my aunt, my father and me with those long legs which are an optical illusion.  These also show my uniform headscarf that I wore from 1969-1971.

Trading the kerchief for a floppy hat, I appear to be making s'mores with my cousin Claire. As a hoarder I swear I'm telling the truth when I say I still have this hat. It has red, white and blue designs with a white reversible side and my daughters and granddaughters have worn it, too.

1971. Me scrubbing the roof of my dad's sailboat.  I believe this could be the last time I was on a boat. I am not a water person either.

I do not remember ever scrubbing the boat but I do remember the bikini which was a dark orange with a yellow paisley print.  I do not still own the bikini.

  1. I don't think the legs were an optical illusion! We just stop showing off our legs as we age. Let's start a revolution and go out with mini skirts to go shopping! Kidding!
So glad the eye surgery went well. They put antibiotics right into my eye[s] at surgery so I didn't have to mess with the drops. Huh.
How are things looking? Clearer? Brighter? Glad ti went so well!

  2. AWWWW! These Kodachrome whispers from the past---I tell you, at a decade ahead of you, I swear I lived in that browny-gray world with the hazy focus. And you have me giggling at six-thirty, at your demurral of that gift of GAMS that would have graced a Rockette, and that closing line. I'm perishing here---I'd have given my Good Citizenship Medal to have walked through life on those LEGS, and a bikini would have been my Kryptonite.

  3. Glad to hear the cataract surgery went well, and for me nothing beats the 70s! These are a nice look back at some great decor, great hair and legs Miss Merry. Too cool about still having the floppy hat and I am digging that bikini πŸ˜‰

  4. So glad your cataract removal went well. You were certainly a trim young thing! Love seeing the 70s photos. Which reminds me that I have scads. I think I pulled out some from albums to distribute to my sons several years ago, but kept lots also.

  5. It may be an optical illusion if it's only once with your legs. A few times and, no. You were blessed with gorgeous gams! I wore a head scarf back then, too.

  6. I'm happy your cataract surgery went well.
I love the photos and I think it's great you still have that floppy hat, and have passed it down.

  7. Three cheers for a painless surgery and recovery!

You were a very slender young woman with great legs. That's not an optical illusion.

  8. We were all taller, had long legs and were thinner. Glad your cataract surgery went well. My husband had his today and right now is sleeping.

  9. So glad to hear about your surgery going well. I have lots of friends who have had it done and all have had wonderful results. One doesn't even wear glasses anymore.
Love the other photos too. Lots of them could have been my life, except the sailboat. We never had a boat. Ever. We never went anywhere. Ever. I love being married to Dennis and adventuring.
I also wore a bikini in those days. Never, ever, ever, ever again. Ha!
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

The old photos are wonderful, and I love that the floppy hat is still around and being worn by the next generations.

  14. I'm not sure I ever owned a bikini. It wasn't for lack of desire, it was for excess of "too much me." But I love all these photos. I've been enjoying going back through mine as well.

By the way, do you follow Family Search and their Roots Tech? If you do, you know they sent out a thing about "do you know your cousins." They send lists of who you are related to -- including famous folk! (based on the database info they have -- and I'm not sure if it's just family search or an amalgam of all sites; probably the former). I really should follow the roots tech thing when it is going on but it always seems to fall at the wrong time.

  15. Lol. if those legs were an optical illusion, I would be pressing you to tell me how you achieved that. No ma'am. I am convinced they are the real deal.

  16. I'm so glad your cataract surgery went well!

It's fun to look back at old photos and see what has and hasn't changed.

  17. Congratulations on successful cataract surgery. Mine were miraculous when I underwent them (was it last year?) but I have had 2 people who have had subsequent surgery and ongoing issues so I do hold my breath.

  18. So glad the Eye Surgery went so well, the Eyes are amazing Organs, aren't they? I am in awe of how well they heal after any surgery and how quickly you can see after a surgery, it's rather miraculous. Loving the Blast from the 1970's Past. I enjoy looking at Old Pixs, we forget how we Decorated, Dressed, what we did, sometimes, without the Evidence. *LOL and sometimes a Wink*
