Another photo heavy post. We don't have a tree up yet. I have to confess that my husband asked me which tree I wanted him to bring in. I made the mistake of asking how many trees are in the shed. The answer was seven. So all seven are on the back porch and I am overwhelmed. So instead . . .
I wanted to decorate this doorway and I have been pricing garlands at various stores and websites. And it was getting crazy. I was at the home improvement store one day and they had fake pine garlands for 7.99 each. The doorway only needed two. Then I went to the dollar store and they had the ornament garlands for $5. I bought four. So the total cost of the doorway was only $36. One garland at the craft store was $40 and even on sale, I would have had to buy several. I think this was a win. My only regret once it was up (of course) was that I should have put it on the other side of the doorway where people will be sitting for Christmas so it could be a backdrop. Next year.
I started a dumb tradition of framing the grandkids Christmas photos and this is where I am at this point. I should have started with wallet photos . . .
I had picked a date for our family Christmas about six weeks ago but three different grandchildren now have sports tournaments that Saturday so my Christmas has moved to Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. so everyone can quickly eat breakfast, open a stocking and leave for more sports events. I am done being bitter, but I did pout for twenty four hours. The kids have reached the teenage stage and coaches are not family friendly when scheduling and penalize them for not attending. So whatever.
Our stinking schools had another two hour delay for a teachers meeting (following a five day weekend for Thanksgiving) but it did give me a contractor for two hours to set up the village for me.
I have also decorated the 3 story dollhouse in my bedroom, but this is another dollhouse I picked up two years ago for no reason and this year it is decorated for Christmas too. Amazing what I will do so I don't have to deal with the trees.
We did brave the frigid temperatures and go to the city's tree lighting. I wore heavy socks and my fake ugg boots. As my toes froze I remembered that in the winter I should wear my insulated boots that were home in the closet.
Five out of my ten frozen grandchildren joined me.
There were celebrities
Cute store windows
Bounce houses, food trucks and s'more stations. Also activities inside stores.
Actually a larger crowd than it looks like in my photos.
Yep, back at the home improvement store.
Flooring. In order to get the necessary pieces to go with the flooring I ended up completely organizing the bins and shelves of accessory pieces to find the last one that was listed in inventory and that they could not order in since it was listed in inventory. My husband found it over in ceramic tile. It was a long afternoon. I think we were there close to three hours.
And - in case you missed it, I starred in a Hallmark movie.
Everyone thinks that Donna Kelce, the football mom, is my doppelganger. As I joke, I changed my facebook photo to a photo of Donna Kelce. Everyone "liked" it and did not notice it wasn't me. So I am now assuming her identity.
I don't know where I think I am going to find time for this, but I ordered Christmas cards today.
I took the high road and ordered grandchild vs my true holiday feelings.
I love your decorating! So colorful and bright.
ReplyDeleteI agree, as the grands get older, they may not have the time to come for a sit down gathering. I recall my brother not being able to eat much at Thanksgiving as he was trying to 'make weight' in wrestling and other disruptions! That was a gazillion years ago! I can't imagine what it is like now.
Looks like it was a fun time at the tree lighting!
Cute card with your Grands:) Yes as the kids get older they cannot all be together...and it gets harder. I would say you have way more decorations up than me:)
ReplyDeleteI don't mind other decorating but doing the tree isn't my favorite either, and I don't have 7 to choose from! Our tree is 6 1/2 feet tall and skinny, because we don't have a big living room. So every years, we wrap the whole thing in cling wrap and bring it downstairs. Then at Christmas, my husband carries it up - and that part is a pain in the neck! But then, the cling gets cut off and the tree just needs a little adjustment...
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about your Christmas plans. I feel like sports seems to take priority over everything, and those coaches should loosen up at Christmas.
The tree lighting looks fun!
I agree. The coaches should take it easy on everyone this time of year. I don't think I've seen so much decorating. It looks like a full time job! I do like it, I just would want someone else to do it.
ReplyDeleteWell, I sure enjoyed your post today. I think you summed up how a lot of people feel about decor, coaches, schools and all else. I laughed out loud at your grands Christmas photo "room". lol
ReplyDeleteI've been so sick with this sinus thing that I have exactly two Christmas photos hung and that it. Thankfully I was done with everything except decorations and I really don't care if they get put up this year or not. You did a great job for the $$$ on the doorway decor. It's gorgeous. You don't look like the actress, she looks like you! You're the imortant one after all.
Blessings,
Betsy
Seven trees? 😱 That’s impressive—and overwhelming! I love how you made the best of it with your creative doorway decoration. Those garlands were such a steal! And your family Christmas plan sounds like a hilarious mix of holiday chaos and sports. The dollhouses are adorable though—looks like you're still getting your festive fix without the tree stress!
ReplyDeleteOur tradition is to pick up a live 6-8 ft tree the morning after Thanksgiving. Daughter and her family help and we take pics at the tree site. Tree will be decorated slowly over the next 2 weeks... as will the house, but not near as much as some. Just bought Christmas cards today... and started addressing them. The next 2 weeks will fly by. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteNo Christmas tree and decorations for us, but family and food will be coming to our home on Christmas Eve.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh. You decorate your doll houses? I feel like a real slacker. I put up a tree. I set out Tim's bubble light candelabra. Voila. House decorated.
ReplyDelete7 Christmas Trees, 10 Frozen Grandchildren, sounds like a Christmas Song. *Winks* I liked your Photo heavy Post of Christmas in your Community, looks like loads of Fun and you do look like that Celebrity! I have a Friend that when Younger, looked so much like Actress Stephanie Powers that even her Daughter and mine, when seeing Stephanie Powers on a Billboard, when they were little, thought it was her up there, we got a kick out of that. Funny Story my Mom liked to tell is that with my Dad being Active Duty Military he was deployed and gone a lot, she didn't realize how I Identified my Dad {at age 2} until when he was coming Home via Train after a deployment, a Black Man in Uniform got off first and I ran up to him, put my Arms tightly around his Leg and screamed "Daddy!" so loud everyone looked and clapped! My Mom then realized, all I recognized of "Dad" was Dark Skin and a Uniform. *Bwahahaha* That poor GI was so embarrassed to have this Blonde little Halfbreed Indian Child acting like I was convinced he was my Daddy! My Dad thought it was hilarious, Mom just felt Bad I didn't recognize my own Dad by Facial Recognition, we have a very twisted sense of Humor tho', so the Story got told often.
ReplyDeletePS: I LOVE your Garland festooned Doorway, you done good!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I really love how that garland came out!! So darn pretty and I guess i missed the ornament garland at Dollar Tree??? I think next year I may do the tension rod garland thing between doorways...I also love your sweet little doll house...So cute....I am behind...Finally wrote out Christmas cards and just did some of my baking yesterday....But I am giving myself Grace as it has been quite a year....
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Deb
