Bathroom Break

Let's take a break from talking about bathrooms!  I have lots of pictures of cute goings on to share.

Do you remember when I had my dates for a quilt show wrong and ended up at a resale shop instead? Now they are all decorated for the holidays!

So is the coffee shop just down the road.

These are from their Facebook page. Here is what I am drinking at home. I am on the bathroom budget.

While we are in the kitchen, the last paper bag of green tomatoes ripened.  I made them into a sauce and served over some meatballs.

Last Saturday I drove 20 minutes down some country roads to a cute little Christmas bazaar where I buy my mincemeat from the Methodist Church ladies.  Most of my family does not eat mincemeat pies which means there is more left over pie for me.

Last night I attended the Fourth Grade Musical with a special dance number by an Orange Sun.

Tonight my posse and I dressed and went to another performance. Can you guess what it was?

Wicked! The witch's hat is blocking my green dress. My granddaughter and I were team Elphaba.  My daughter is team Glinda.

Here's some Thanksgiving Memories.

My parents were married on Thanksgiving morning. My grandfather owned a jewelry store in town and was open on Friday evenings and all day Saturday. Those were his biggest shopping days, especially so close to Christmas.  They were married in the morning and the ceremony was followed by a breakfast reception.  Afterwards all the guests went home and cooked their turkey.  My dad never remembered his wedding date, it was always on Thanksgiving in his mind.

This one is a funny one.  I may have mentioned a hundred times that we live in a teeny tiny house. During all the years when my children were young, we always hosted Thanksgiving for both sides of the family.  Now in my older years, I am very confused by this. Why my house? And why me cooking when I had a full time job and five children? Regardless, here are two of the tables in my living room. On Wednesday night my husband, children and I would move all our living room furniture into the garage and set up tables. As you might notice, everyone had to enter through the kitchen as the front door is blocked. I wish I had more pictures, but this is back when we only had so many spots on the roll of film.  I still think this is ridiculous and very funny.

Happy Thanksgiving!

  2. I enjoyed your Wicked outfits and the Orange Boy. How fun! Mandy just said tonight that she wants to go see Wicked. I told her I would go with her and she was pretty excited. Fun!
I always hosted Thanksgiving for everyone when we lived here before our sojourn in Spokane. Our first year back in 2021 my sister asked if we were back to the good old days. Well, of course. But now that we're in our condo we really do not have room for our family and often our SIL's family too. So I cook all of the food and we take it to Mandy & Brad's house. They have lots and lots of room. This year I have a 23 lb turkey to cook. It's been in the fridge thawing since Sunday.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving my friend.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  3. I am so impressed, Mary. Incredible that you did all this despite having a job and 5 kids. I would have balked. Haha. Guess I am too lazy.

  4. I loved all the visuals! Those Christmas decorations in the shops! Wow! Talk about overload!

Wicked! I would love to see that. It may be at our theatre in town this month. Unfortuneatly, the movie theatre will be shutting its doors at the end of December. Everything in that building which housed a bank, a customer service center for US Cellular, and a grocery store are going away. The building's owners decided to stop fixing things after 30 years.

Anyway. I recall Thanksgivings like yours when I was a kid and we had dinners at my Aunt's house. It was an 8 hour drive one way to get there. The kids ate in the entryway, the teens in the kitchen, the adults on a huge table in the living room. Confusion and chaos ruled the day, which was absolute fun for us kids.

Thanks for those wonderful memories and the Thankgiving Morning Wedding!

  5. Hooray for that orange sun! Those programs are just the best!
I was born on Thanksgiving Day so I understand your dad's thoughts... Great wedding photo!
I also loved the old Thanksgiving photo. It may have been crowded but it really speaks to those old Thanksgivings to me. I remember being crowded in as well, and sitting at the kids table!

  6. Apparently you were the best cook! My daughter Jen went to Wicked and she said she didn't like it. Growing up we were always at my Grandparents for Thanksgiving they only had two big tables and several card tables for 30 plus people...I am not sure how my Grandmother did it all. I often sat on the floor and ate:) That is a great old photo..you were dedicated to move all your furniture out and then cook too!

  7. I have not seen the movie, however I did see the play. Being a Wizard of Oz fan from way back when, I was not sure I would like the play, but I did. Looks like you have been rocking around all the Christmas stuff. Nice....I love places like that but, I would hate to be the one that has to find all the Christmas stuff to put it away if it did not sale...lol

  8. I hope to see Wicked with my sister, who already saw it but wants to see it again...Love the shops you shared...So pretty...I am playing catch up and viewed your previous posts but did not comment on all of them....I spent every Holiday at my parents house with just my own family as i grew up without Grandparents... Traditions will be changing for Christmas this year which I will post about next week and I am okay with all of it...
