Sunday

Life in my crazy rural community continues.

On Friday a male resident of an assisted living facility shot two employees and then turned the gun on himself. I was happy to learn that other people than me wonder about residents in assisted living facilities having loaded firearms. When I saw the news, I was certain in was a different New London, a large city in another state. But no, it is the tiny village where I take my grandchildren for their Whoo London Grinch celebration.

My black eyes are fading and, if I wear thick framed classes, the marks are blending in. Well, I am telling myself that.  I was congratulating myself that no one had noticed but I found out several people were being polite and not asking what happened. I am a woman of mystery! My doctor appointment is this Tuesday so I will see what she thinks about the nose, which is SO much smaller than a week ago.

It's not our first rodeo with the new president so I am getting prepared. The last time we were locked in our houses and grocery stores were empty. That isn't happening again here! I need to clear off these shelves this week so I can load up for my pandemic pantry. This photo is to remind me what it looks with all the crap gone. I am going to start restocking this week.  I also have a quarter beef on order for early January.

The threat of tariffs has spurred Mr. Merry to buy the materials for the bathroom remodel!! We just returned from the store with the first load, all the drywall, insulation, the shower pan, a bunch of stuff I don't know what it is, electrical stuff, new cap light for the shower and pieces of wood for something.  We have the shower walls on order for delivery the day after Thanksgiving.

We have two more trips to make. Next is cabinet, sink, raised commode and the new mirror. In that trip we are also getting the faucets, the grab bars and other accessories.  The third trip will be the flooring, I believe and that is the last step.  I am super excited about this project! I have saved for this a long time and we should have everything purchased by the end of November.

The next meeting of the True Crime Podcast Club at my library is coming up and I need to listen to at least 4 assigned podcasts this week so I won't have time for any news programs. It is tricky to plan my listening time around visiting grandchildren since I don't feel the material is appropriate. I just realized it is 4 1/2 hours of listening so I better get busy!  I am so into this, I am embarrassed. I take notes, do a timeline and suspect lists. I could write a true crime novel on my own by the time I am ready for class, lol.

Okay, get to work on those shelves, Miss Merry.

  1. Funny. I thought the same thing. I asked hubby if I could get a few things to 'stock' up. Having him for pres. will make me feel as if we are in COVID lock down again. Sad and dark days.
Your colorful eyes are looking better.
Yikes an Assisted Living person with a weapon...What the heck?

  2. After our 'conversation', I sat down to take stock. We have a new fridge and wash tower at the new build. We also stock pile things as we find them on sale, to be used as needed for rentals and renovations. We are lucky there, I guess. We haven't bought the dishwasher for my new kitchen, and I think we probably should.

Not to be rude, but your nose does look a little crooked. My gosh that must have been one heck of a tumble.

    1. My daughter the nurse thought it looks crooked from the get go. It will be 7 days at my appointment. I hope they don't want to rebreak it to set it. Or maybe I am just holding my head crooked.

  3. Sometimes it seems that everyone has a gun. What a tragedy.

  4. Well that was sad, I figure that anyone in an assisted living facility would have gotten rid of their guns as they live in a controlled access place.
I hope you will continue to heal and not have to have surgery...I suppose it depends on how well you are breathing threw the nose. Good Luck!
Restocking a pantry is always a good idea!

  5. Such a tragedy at the assisted living. I pray that all is well with the other residents and employees. They have to be having nightmares about it.
I sure hope you don't have to have surgery and rebreak the nose. Just think, it will ad character to your face. Ha!
I think having a few extra groceries is always a great idea. I try to keep at least 6-9 months of dry goods at all times. (Toilet paper, canned goods, etc.)
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  6. I am going to follow your lead and do the same. I think I missed what happened to you? Obviously a fall. Ouch. We remodeled two bathrooms in 2018 and I'm so glad we did. You will be, too.

  7. A gun in an assisted living facility is very concerning! So many there are depressed or in early stages of dementia.

  8. They let people in assisted living carry firearms?!? Good gosh!
Wow! Your laundry room is totally spotless. I am so impressed.

    1. That was when my husband completed it. You would not recognize it today. But I did purchase a lot of staples so it will have to be reorganized and made camera ready again.

  9. I have been "stocked" up since September....Not because of the re- election of him but just for the Winter and to keep my grocery bills down to a minimum as my heating bill goes up....My small pantry closet is overflowing...Good idea to get building supplies now before the tariffs hit. It amazes me how people do not understand that tariffs only cost us more money.....

Thank you so much for stopping by to visit! I love your comments and suggestions and read them all. Due to spam, I will now have to approve all comments. Sometimes it takes me a hot minute to authorize comments due to grandchildren commitments. I apologize but I can't let those scammers get the upper hand!
