Halloween Costumes

I have a free afternoon and I think I will try to catch up on October, lol.  Now that I learned how to schedule posts, maybe I can break the month down and have shorter posts more often?  We shall see!

My youngest daughter's two kids asked me to make costumes again. They don't want to make it easy on me.  My granddaughter wanted to be an iphone.  I did some googling and she settled for an oversized black t-shirt with app.  I printed the apps on my computer and glued them to the puffy foam sheet and used velcro to attach them to the shirt.

I thought it would work out great, but I did not take into account the Halloween birthday party she would attend where they trick or treated at a campground for four hours. She lost one app and I had to re-velcro the others.  That used up my supplies and she just told people she deleted one app (It actually was spotify - so if you know, you know - kismet).

My grandson wanted to be a fruit basket. No one knows where he got this idea but he refused to be dissuaded.  He fell for a brown sweatshirt with fruit and an apple hat from Amazon.

I used the same method to make his "basket". Again, I was thwarted. His soccer team had a season end party and played soccer in their costumes. He lost half of the fruit. This photo is "before". He requested the fruit split on the zipper.

His mother and I decided to do "iron-on" fruit for stability.  I reprinted all the fruit on iron-on something and half of it did not show because it turns out there is iron-on for light fabric and iron-on for dark fabric. Several dollars later we achieved a fruit basket. By the end of trick or treat, some fruit was peeling off.

My 3 out of 7 grandson sent me a picture of a cartoon character and asked me to create this one. I don't know her name.  I did all but the implants- his mother added those.
It was a group costume. I am too old to know what they are doing. I am guessing a movie?

It was in the 40's for trick or treat with an icy drizzle and medium wind.  My middle son and his wife moved to a neighborhood whose residents told him they plan on 150 trick or treaters. They got 44.  I told them that now they know how many kids are in the neighborhood vs those who come in from the country or another town and chose to wait until a different event.  They were disappointed.  A grandchild I didn't have to dress is on their porch.

The second to the last of the grandsons has a birthday during Halloween week.  You can see how much more pleasant the weather was a few days before trick or treat.  These are the guests at the party, six of them are my grandchildren.

I told him I would make a macaroni salad that was spooky.  I was very disappointed that I did not have enough food coloring for spooky and it looks more healthy. More on the macaroni salad in another post.

And we will leave the festivities with a police detective sergeant who was giving television interviews on the apprehension of a paroled murderer who abducted a motel worker. The worker managed to escape his clutches on Halloween Eve and the officers were able to capture him. The next night he patrolled the streets to slow down nonexistent traffic during the trick or treat.  He won best costume at our driveway and received candy from his sister (they are my youngest children).

  7. And again, you win Grandma of the year! Great costumes. I have absolutely NO imagination with costumes. Please thank your son for us. I feel for police these days and pray for them every. single. day. I know there are some bad apples as with everything, but most are very caring and wonderful men and women. Your two youngest are cuties.
We had no trick or treaters since we live in a secure condo. But Mandy prepares for 700!!! And gave almost all of it away. It was very cold in the mid 30's but that didn't stop the kids. People bus them to their neighborhood because of the decorations and good candy! :-) Miss Piper knew I didn't have any candy so she texted a photo to me this afternoon of a ziplock bag full of chocolate goodies that she has set aside for me. Yay! Isn't she the sweetest to thing of me? She knows I adore chocolate.
    Happy November Miss Merry.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  8. Bows, Kowtows, Namastes!! You win the Grandma Costume Contest, hands down, and Grandma of the Decade, just because. I knew Mrs. Webster immediately---your costumely talents bear no bounds.

I had no littles to dress this year, or for several past, but we have a New Two next door, ages six and three, so life is lively. I did, however, get to sit on the edge of my porch in the light, swinging my crocks in their WITCHY stockings, along with my enormous pink witch hat with veil, pink cardigan, slacks, and gloves, passing out shiny silver packets of Rice Krispy Treats, while more than FOUR HUNDRED happy, pleasant young folks greeted and thanked and were almost practice-at-charm-school polite. Yes, more than 400; Daughter insists on getting the GOOD STUFF. What a happy evening!!

  9. You sure do come through in a pinch. The costumes are great. Love the deleted app scenario - ha! Everyone needs to ditch Spotify for sure. I may be the only person (plus my mom) who doesn't have extra apps on their phone. Never have used Spotify or Amazon. Shorter posts make a lot of sense since you always have so much going on. Take care.

  10. I love seeing pix of your kids and grad kids. Good grief, what a creative lot they are! Who would have ever thought as going as an iphone? Or a fruit basket, for that matter! And what an amazing job you did with all those costumes. I love that your son patrolled the streets -- that had to be a challenging time for everyone and very concerning. I would say 'relax a little' but I have a feeling you won't!

Thank you so much for stopping by to visit! I love your comments and suggestions and read them all. Due to spam, I will now have to approve all comments. Sometimes it takes me a hot minute to authorize comments due to grandchildren commitments. I apologize but I can't let those scammers get the upper hand!
