Memory Monday

I want to thank everyone for the sweet comments on the story and photograph of my grandparents. I am the keeper of history in my family and am responsible for the stories and photographs. I thought I might start sharing a photo and story every Monday, just for fun.

The first collage is a series that I scanned from a photo I found in a recipe file when I was emptying my grandparents house. Thank goodness it was marked with my grandfather's name on the back. It was in horrible condition so I tried a few filters.  His family was very poor and lived in a very rural location. I was shocked to find this photograph.

This is the lovely bride in the previous story. I do not recognize the background. It could be where she attended nursing school.

And here is grampa when he served in the 830 Aer Squadron, American Expeditionary Forces, France.

And here is one of the last photos of I have of them together.

Thanks for indulging me!

  3. I am the keeper of history for my family too so I really appreciate seeing this. It's great having the baby pictures to the one of them as an older couple.

  5. Oh, he looked so Young during his Service, and, I'm sure he was too!!! Some of the Boy Soldiers I see when I go on Base makes me realize how Young most of our Military really is. One time I mistook some of them for being Older Kids from the Day Care! *LOL* The Man got a kick out of that and informed me, no, those are GI's Honey, not Kids from the Day Care doing that work on the Grounds of the Base!!! I am the Keeper Of History as well for my Family, so I fully appreciate anyone else who is, it's important. That Baby Picture is precious, and Yes, in their Day it was so Rare to even be Photographed, it was such a Luxury that many Families didn't have and we forget that these days. I think the 1st Photo I have of my Dad is when he joined the Military at Age 17, I don't know he'd ever been Photographed before that, I know the Military issued him his 1st pair of Shoes, they made everything they wore on the Reservations in his day.

  6. About 15 years ago, I found a TON of photos my husband had in some boxes. I went through them with him and he ID'd the folks in the shots so I could write on the back who they were. I don't have many photos of my family history.
However I have a large box of slides from the 1960's to go through yet.
    Very cool!

  8. I love seeing people's old family photos. I don't know why, but they tell such stories. That one of your grandfather that you manipulated -- well done. We've had a few of these. I'm glad you're going to do this now and then. It's a great idea.

Sometimes it takes me a hot minute to authorize comments due to grandchildren commitments. I apologize but I can't let those scammers get the upper hand!
