I will leave my unhinged stuff to the end. Where have I been?
Meanwhile my meat arrived.
Whatever I wrote here. The last time we bought a beef quarter it lasted us almost a year. Lots of trips to the store to restock the pantry since who knows what games we are playing with groceries and tariffs. We are still getting our eggs from my lesbian chicken farmer. We did have a shortage when we were below zero for too long and they were freezing in the coop before she could grab them. But we are stocked up again with enough to share with my favorite people.
We had a bunch of snow days and I think this was a cold day - too cold to wait at bus stops and too cold to walk to school (if you live within a mile, you are a walker). So they are playing . . . school.
Took this ruffian with us to the dealership for service on my car. Mr Merry prefers a garage two towns away so it is always an outing.
We waited at the diner. I ordered one egg and bacon per his request. He told the waitress he needed more eggs. She asked how many he wanted. He said nine.
Just in time for the next morning when we took my husband's truck to the dealership with this roughneck who had a kindergarten in-service day.
He arrives a little later and had breakfasted at home. We ended up at a coffee shop which thrilled grampa. There were some complications and this trip took an entire day.
Thrilled to sit in the coffee shop.
My middle son brought me a package of the Viral Sam's Club Crab Legs to try. We did not think they tasted like crab legs. I would give them a C and would not bother to make them again.
My niece and her husband live out of state. I am afraid to say which state. They are both federal employees, professionals who work at a VA medical center. Yesterday her husband got the email requesting everyone at the facility resign. He deleted it and it popped back up. They cannot use screenshot so he took a grainy photo with his camera. They are in their 40's and this is their pension/retirement as well as what supports their family. A supervisor did tell him that he might be kept on . . . but then he would be doing the work of the entire department. All social workers are being let go. Yes, veterans.
I have two daughters and a daughter in law who are teachers. One is a college professor. Her job is in jeopardy between our state legislature and governor and President Musk. The other two are elementary teachers. They are in the same predicament. The entire staff at all the schools are terrified as to what is happening. Both of the elementary teachers have several Title 1 students including a deaf boy. All the modifications will be dropped. They both teach at schools in lower income areas where the majority of students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. This program is on the chopping block too.
A close friend of twenty five years has had a series of hardships in her life. She is now 69 years old, divorced and disabled. You may remember me talking about a friend who was a hoarder who I helped empty her apartment. She qualified to move into subsidized senior housing in our community and receives meals on wheels since she really can't leave her apartment. This complex is wonderful and is run by the Lutheran Church. For some reason, President Musk and his high school bomb squad are threatening the Lutheran Church and it's charities. She and all the residents are afraid they will be in the street.
I have been calling both of our new state senators who are supporters of President Musk. When I expressed concern over the fact unauthorized teenagers are in the treasury department copying my IRS and Social Security information, the aides in both offices laughed. Today they have taken their phones off the hook. A friend traveled to our state capital yesterday to plead on the behalf of veterans (she is a veterans advocate) and she was met in the lobby by federal marshals who marched her out. She had called ahead to see if she needed an appointment and was told no.
Could I make this more sad? We used to live up at the top of the hill in our younger days. The white sticks are on the road at the bottom of the hill. The road goes over a creek. One spring the water rose to emergency heights, but a nurse traveling to work in the dark did not see the reflection and drove into it. It carried her in her Volkswagen down the river and she was drown. The white sticks are there now to gauge water levels on the road. I was listening to my scanner that morning too. She was on the phone with 911 and they were trying to get her to get on the roof of the convertible, but lost her. It was so tragic. I'm so tired of sadness and fear.
Did the “ruffian” actually get nine eggs? Dawn, over at bohemianvalhalla, recently posted that restaurants are going to start charging 50 cents extra for meals with eggs ... per egg.
ReplyDeleteThe very sweet server suggested he eat one egg and see if he was still hungry. He never mentioned it again, lol. Most of our local restaurants are charging the 50 cents per egg, too. Our McDonalds charges $6.15 for an Egg McMuffin with one egg so I am willing to pay the 50 cents on rare occasions we go out for breakfast. I actually ordered French toast since I don't usually make that for myself.
DeleteMiss Merry, I've missed you (very sorry about your laptop) but boy this post sure made up for things. Appreciated the read, enjoyed the photos, but the Musk things you wrote at the end scared and angered me. What is happening is simply unreal. Harassing gov't workers to resign...how sickening. Anyway, good to hear from you again and yep, eggs are a friggin' fortune!
ReplyDeleteOMG, the Unhinged stuff is terrifying, I'm so sorry to hear that in your State and the ones your Loved Ones live, things are unraveling faster than they are here. I'm sure it will eventually happen everywhere, it's just a matter of time unless they manage to shut this shitshow down, which, isn't looking likely. I'm glad you were able to have some enjoyable Family time, I too am focusing on what is important to me beyond all the fuckery, since, Family is everything and we'll circle the Wagons if we have to. I do Hope your Church can weather the attacks...
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a fun birthday time, but other than that, I'm sorry for the way your month is going. We've stocked up a bit on groceries too and are thinking of buying a quarter or half a beef. We ususally get out meat at Costco, but maybe it would be less expensive another way.
ReplyDeleteWe went out to eat after church with friends last week. It was our first time eating out in awhile and we were surprised at the egg surcharge. Hubby had an omelet and it cost him and extra $3.00!
Blessings,
Betsy
As a wife of a disabled veteran this sends chills through my brain and body. Without help from the social workers and the wonderful VA staff...hubby would no longer be with me.
ReplyDeleteI can figure out now why my phone calls and messages for certain supplies at the VA may be unanswered...
And it isn't just me that I worry about. Meals on Wheels feed so many elderly in our area as well as assisted housing. Not to mention that 1 out of 3 kids in our farm community depend on BadgerCare -- Medicaid as well as those poor elders.
I am sick.
We are now going to face the h-ll and fury of two madmen in T and M.
You are right about getting some flowers and making things look beautiful. Please do more. I really need it right now.
I have not ever felt this helpless. I do know I don't want to hear anything about law and order from the people who put them into power. I'm happy to hear one egg was enough for the little rufian. Your table looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteWas just talking to my eldest boy in Denver tonight and he was saying that the last three times he went to the grocery he couldn't find any eggs at all. It looks like you had a lot of good grandkiddie time but everything else is just an absolute disaster. Crazy times for sure. So sorry to hear about your friend losing everything in the house fire. Take care of yourself.
ReplyDeleteWow! This post is an alarming sampler of what is going on all over the country with the 45/47 and Musk cuts and illegal layoffs. Thank you for documenting the pain because it's the only way to get some people to get their heads out of the sand and start protesting what is going on. I'm shocked that your representative offices just laughed at you!
ReplyDeleteThe deer caught on your cameras intrigues me. I have been resisting getting one for my deck to capture wildlife.
Mary, I've been worried about you. I know you are on the front lines of this, so to speak, and I knew your heart would be breaking. The worst part is not being able to predict what is going to happen next. Our world has become very uncertain, hasn't it?
ReplyDeleteHouse fires are so horrible, I hope they had good insurance. God is in charge...we never know what misfortune will befall us next.
