Mama Bears

There is a small LGBTQ+ community in our small rural area. Due to safety concerns, they try to stay out of the spotlight, while offering friendship and support to those who need it.
There is a group that is more willing to be in public, even though all the communities and the county commissioners in our county refused to issue an acknowledgement of Pride month.

Actually the commissioners rescinded any acknowledgement at the courthouse where groups put little flags in the lawn or billboards for a week or month. They learned it was all or nothing.  So now there will be no more wooden cutouts of children for child abuse awareness or wooden cutouts like paper dolls to acknowledge abused women, or pink ribbons for breast cancer awareness, or any other symbol because otherwise they would have to let there be tiny little pride flags stuck in the lawn in June. Or even for a week in June. Or even for a day in June.

These are the Mama Bears, moms of children who are LGBTQ+.  They heard I was an ally and asked me if I wanted to join them in a stroll through town to bring awareness that someone is there if you need some support. I was happy to participate (here we are in front of the courthouse). I am in all black because I misplaced my shirt. I am also carrying my American flag because I am American.

Tonight I am praying for the people in the middle east who are struggling with the aftermath of devastation. I am praying for our troops who are being sent into war.  And I am praying for their moms who have to be terrified.

  2. I just learned about the strikes and was aghast.

    WTH.
I have two friends that are transgender and you know what? It doesn't bother me at all! I have other acquaintances that are gay and they ... don't hurt anyone.
However our town had their Gay Pride Parad I think last week. It was quite the parade. No hiding in our area.
I just looked up the news and I'm pretty sure I'm not going to sleep tonight.

  5. I am horrified, Miss Merry. I feel like there is nothing to be done but to wait and see what happens next. It just doesn't look good. The flight to Iran took 37 hours with midair refueling. That means that they left Friday morning with their bombs. The trip required planning. That means that while he was announcing a 2 week hold, he was actively planning the attack.

  6. Good for you and the Mama Bears! I think anyone with a sliver of sanity knows this is a very bad move. Someone, an orange someone, is preening at the moment. Soon it will be everyone to blame but him.

  7. First, this is just great! Well done. (What on earth are they thinking and why, oh, why, are we still fighting those battles? That's just ridiculous. But I digress.) Also, very nice "concealment" of faces. As for the international weekend, hold onto your hat. This is not going to be pretty.

  8. I need to learn how to conceal faces on my blog! Is it hard? I'm glad you're an ally and stood with them. I feel the same as you but am more of a chicken. :( One of my late father's professors in college (in the 1950s) told them that WWIII would start in the Middle East. I think he was correct.

Thank you so much for stopping by to visit! I love your comments and suggestions and read them all. Due to spam, I will now have to approve all comments. Sometimes it takes me a hot minute to authorize comments due to grandchildren commitments. I apologize but I can't let those scammers get the upper hand!
